The Key Laboratory of Animal Parasitology of the Gansu Province, founded in 2005, is based on the Animal Parasitology Laboratory of the Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, created in 1957.
It is one of the earliest, strongest and most influential animal parasitology laboratories in China, which was established by integration of the Animal Parasitology Department of Northwest Animal Science and the Veterinary Research Institute and the Animal Parasitology Department of Harbing Veterinary Research Institute.
It possesses an experimental building of 3000 m2, 1000m2 of animal stables and scientific facilities and equipment, such as electronic microscopy, ultra-centrifuge and nucleic acid sequencer, etc. Its research areas cover parasite biology, parasite strain collection and storage, epidemiology, immunological diagnosis, vaccine development, molecular biology (e.g. Genomics, functional genomics, proteomics. transcriptome, microRNA, molecular genetics, etc.) and disease pre-warning and forecasting.
The laboratory was supported by partnerships including European Union and Sino-Australia cooperation programs, National Key Program, Science Foundation, etc. Scientific projects were awarded by the National Science and Technology Conference of the Ministry of Agriculture, Gansu Province and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science. The laboratory makes large contributions to both scientific research and animal parasite disease control, so that it has become a very important part of science and technology innovation system on animal parasitology in China.
